Chiké Okonkwo, producer and executive at Unleashing Giants Studios, is one of the leads of Nate Parker’s THE BIRTH OF A NATION, which was a record-breaking acquisition at last year’s Sundance, being purchased for $17.5m by Fox Searchlight. Hailing from London, Okonkwo is currently a lead on BET’s hit show BEING MARY JANE.EMIL PINNOCK, Director / Producer and Writer Of Up North, began his career at a young age as a child actor, hosting “Reading Rainbow” alongside Levar Burton before playing Oprah Winfrey’s son in the acclaimed film “Beloved.” He subsequently turned his attention to writing and development, mentored by one the biggest writer/producers in the industry, Roberto Orci, who wrote Transformers as well as Spiderman.The development of “Up North,” based on Emil’s personal experience of being arrested and eventually acquitted of gun possession, followed when he and Ian Robertson – a Harvard educated screenwriter, joined him in the writing and development process. The partnership formulating their ‘Harlem and Harvard’ vivid street edge meets cultured craft writing style. Up North demonstrates that Inside the system, it’s just as hard getting out as going in.
