Shrek 2 still holds up very well and I can safely call it one of my favorite animated films

I haven't seen Shrek 2 since it came out almost 15 years. It was the first movie I was EXTREMELY hyped for and as a kid with no real Internet nagivation skills, I had no clue what to expect. I remember it first being mentioned in a Nick Magazine around 2003 with no pictures, no info, or anything. As a kid, that near year of silence was near torture. When I first saw it on opening day, I was shocked at how insane the fandom was. I wouldn't see a line that big until The Force Awakens premiered in 2015. I remember thinking it was hilarious just how many adults were as hyped as I was, wearing Shrek-ears and Shrek shirts. As for the movie itself, I only remember bits and pieces, but what I do remember, I remember vividly such as the giant Gingie, the COPS sequence, Donkey's lip pop, the Fairy God mother's factory, all the Puss in Boots scenes. It's insane that after only one viewing in the span of 14 years, many scenes still stuck with me. Perhaps that's a testament to how hyped I was for it, but I think that exemplifies just how memorable of a film it is and how well it expands upon many of the ideas from the first film. With my 2nd viewing, I realize how many jokes must have easily went over my head like the "catnip" bag and the "Pork Illustrated," but adult humor aside, Shrek 2 manages to be hilarious and densely detailed. Every scene has something to laugh at and even the pop culture references that were extremely relevant to the time don't feel outdated. I also like how as a sequel it questions the ending to Shrek 1- can Shrek and Fiona really live happily ever after and adjust to their new lives so easily? The animation still holds up well, with the opening sequence with Prince Charming looking pretty damn impressive still. The humans look fantastic as does the fur on Puss in Boots, and it's even more impressive considering Pixar hadn't really explored animating a human cast at that time.I know this post probably comes as a no-brainer to those who grew up watching the movie multiple times, but to me, it came as a surprise to how much I enjoyed it as an adult. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/2KyD5XK
