LPT: be respectful of haunted house actors: they're leaving it all on the floor for you.

It's not at all uncommon for people to believe haunted houses are a challenge not to get scared. They go in feeling like they need to prove something. Or worse yet, they think the actors scaring them are trying to attack them personally. That seems like a very backwards way to enjoy any thrill ride: actively trying to avoid being thrilled by it.What's more, if you believe you somehow "lose" when an actor scares you, you might be very rude to them to prove how much win you are. You may shove them, curse them out, or try to prove you're better than their piddly efforts to be scary by making rude comments. Then you walk away, and they repeat their performance for hundreds more people till the wee hours of the morning.Scare actors often do very physical routines with few or no breaks, often after a long day at their regular jobs. They may make a little, or it may be entirely volunteer work. When they see a genuine thrill, scare, laugh, or even just an expression of genuine amusement, it makes all the hours of intensive labor worth the effort. When they get the scream, it makes their night. But when people are disrespectful or confrontational, the job is thankless and exhausting. If you want to get the most out of your money, walk in expecting to enjoy yourself. If something scares you, be scared. If not, appreciate it for what it is and enjoy the immersive theater experience. Nothing contributes to the quality of the haunt more than a good audience. Put those good vibes out there!!EDIT: also, there is a special place in hell for people who walk through a haunted house with a flash lightEDIT 2: wow, thanks for the gold!! Glad to see so many people supporting the idea of treating their haunters with respect via /r/LifeProTips https://ift.tt/2Qzrhb5
