Hungary PM Nominates Central Bank Chief

BUDAPEST—Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday nominated his economy minister and the architect of the country's controversial economic policy, Gyorgy Matolcsy, as the new central bank governor.

"Someone with government experience must be appointed. Since the central bank is independent and its independence cannot be questioned, stability and predictability can only be ensured if a person who has seen government work and has experience in it, is requested to fill the post," Mr. Orban said on state radio MR1, in a regular biweekly address.
