People need to watch Spartan (2004) - Quite possibly the most realistic, blunt and brutal spy thrillers I've ever seen. Features one of Val Kilmer's best performances.

Roger Ebert gave it a 4/4 review, and for good reason. There's a certain tone, atmosphere and pace with Spartan that's unique to it, and the closest analogy I can think is Martin Campell's James Bond films or Micheal Mann's action thrillers - only more realistic and witty in its own way. The dialogue is just brilliant throughout, plenty of golden lines, the "action" is very unapologetic, it doesn't waste time on meaningless drama, and that makes it super tense.Val Kilmer kills it. Like Doc Holiday, this is a role he seemed born to play.Seriously, watch it. I can't believe it took me so long to get around to watching it. The movie feels ahead of its time. If it came out today, I'm convinced it'd be better received.https://ift.tt/30Ub9JB via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3gW2jAy
