Why is it acceptable for a lot of Americans to kick their kids out of home as soon as they turn 18?

I cannot think of any other culture where this is viewed as acceptable. Maybe it's a small group of individuals but I've read so many posts here of kids being kicked out and all were from the U.S. Can someone explain the thought process that goes in the mind of someone who thinks it's a good idea to kick a literal kid with no serious work experience, education or means of providing for themselves, out of their home?I hope this doesn't classify as "sealioning", I am legitimately interested in finding an explanation and hold no ill will against the parents who do this.Edit: 950 comments so far woah, that's awesome!
